Maersk points record profit on growing container shipping demand

In Q1 2021, the largest container transport operator A. P. Moller-Maersk performed well with a record profit for itself. In the first three months of this year, the Danish company made a net profit of $ 2.7 bn, which is more than in 13 times more than in the Q1 2020 and is approximately equal to the figure for the full year of 2020. This is reported in the company’s interim financial report.

According to CEO Seren Skou, this strong growth and profitability are due to the strong demand for sea freight, logistics and terminal services. The increased demand caused a shortage of capacity and equipment, which led to record high freight rates.

The press service of the company also noted that, according to forecasts, the strong dynamics of indicators will continue until the end of this year against the background of high demand for container cargo transportation.
