From the beginning of 2018 the cargo turnover of Ukrainian sea ports amounted to 585 572 TEU, up 14% from the same period last year. Both imports and exports of this type of cargo have increased significantly. This is evidenced by the data of the AMU.
The growth of volumes was mainly due to an increase in the import flow of containers, which reached 16.2%. Export flows also grew, but at a slower pace of only 11.7%. The balance of export and import cargo flows, which has been maintained recently, has changed in the first nine months. The volume of imports began to exceed export volumes. Imports increased to 300 072 TEU, while total exports to 285 175 TEU.
The gap between imports and exports is growing. In comparison with the same period of 2017, the difference was 14 897 TEU, against 2 896 TEU, which was a year earlier. In total, the ratio of exports and imports is estimated at 48.7% to 51.3%
