According to the press center of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (“UZ”), from April 1, 2019, the company plans to increase tariffs for transportation of goods by rail by 14.2%. It is noted that the The State Regulatory Service of Ukraine by its decision agreed on the indexation of tariffs for freight transport at the level of last year’s producer price index.

“Indexation of tariffs for cargo transportation will allow implementing the company’s investment program and will significantly improve the technical condition of the industry, which will have a positive impact on the national economy as a whole. It is worth noting that all market participants are aware that the current issue is to change the existing tariff system, which does not reflect economic realities. Therefore, “Ukrzaliznytsia” together with representatives of the market and government agencies has committed to develop and present a new system that will meet the modern economy and the needs of the industry by July 1″, acting CEO Yevhen Kravtsov said.

At the same time, many industry experts opposed the sharp increase in tariffs of “UZ”. The leaders of industrial associations have already written a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Kistion, First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan, that such an initiative has signs of abuse of the monopoly position in the rail transport market.
