In January, the cargo turnover of Ukrainian seaports decreased by almost 26%

According to the SE Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), in January 2021, the cargo turnover of seaports of Ukraine in comparison with the same period in 2020 fell by 25.7%, to 10.016 million tons.

Thus, cargo handling in exports decreased by 23.5% — to 7.804 million tons, in imports – by 28.1% – to 1.595 million tons, in transit – by 41.9% – to 561 thousand tons, handling of coastal cargo fell by 40% – to 56.3 thousand tons.

It is noted that such dynamics is caused by a reduction in grain exports due to unfavorable weather conditions, delays in grain harvesting in the 2020-2021 marketing year, as well as a decrease in iron ore imports, which, in turn, was caused by price fluctuations in world commodity markets and the termination of ore transit through the “Pivdennyi” port .
