JSC “Ukrzaliznytsya” develops a strategy for the development of multimodal transport

JSC “Ukrzaliznytsya” (“UZ”) has started to develop a long-term strategy for the development of multimodal transport. It was informed by press-service of the company with reference to the acting Board member Roman Vepryckii.

“The container transportation market in Ukraine demonstrates positive growth dynamics by an average of 13-15% annually. Accordingly, the growth of container transport is also taking place on the railway. Thus, in the first 4 months of 2020, the railway transported 90 thousand TEU as part of container trains, which is more than 2 times the volume of traffic for the same period in 2019. The development of railway container transport in Ukraine should be one of the main directions of “Ukrzaliznytsya”. Therefore, today we are working on a strategy for the development of multimodal transport. The multimodal transport market has great potential. However, for its further development, we must resolve issues related to the renewal of rolling stock, the construction of a network of intermodal terminals and the technical equipment of existing terminals. These are the key areas that we are working on in our development strategy”, it is noted in the message.

Also Vepryckii mentioned that by 2030, the transportation of containers by rail can reach 2.8 million TEU. “This is an optimistic scenario, which is laid down in the development strategy of UZ for 2019-2023. I believe that these are quite achievable figures”, he said.
